Webinar: Life in the Fast Lane with UTSA Sprinter Lauren Roy
We are inviting aspiring track and field athletes to join us for a discussion with current University of Texas San Antonio track star Lauren Roy, taking place on Wednesday 29 November as part of our webinar series with US college athletes.
Date: Wednesday 29 November | Time: 8.00pm GMT
Sprinter Lauren, who comes from Ballymena, is in her junior year with the UTSA Roadrunners and is an accomplished Ireland international who ran in the World Championships in Oregon last year as a member of Ireland’s 4 x 100m relay team, and also has previous Diamond League experience.
With personal bests of 11.61 (100m) and 23.54 (200m) Lauren has competed in NCAA D1 60m, 100m and 200m track competitions for the past fifteen months, and will join our host Laura Kerr on the webinar, FirstPoint’s Associate Director of Athletics and a former track and field scholar at McNeese State University.
We’ll find out what it takes to be a D1 athlete in the US, the training facilities she enjoys, life as a student-athlete, her competitive schedule, and her journey from club athletics in Northern Ireland to the track in Texas.
Laura, who has also been Team Leader for the Great Britain & Norther Ireland team at U18s level, is looking forward to hosting the webinar:
“We’re very excited to have Lauren joining us for the webinar and she’s a young athlete that many of our prospective track and field candidates will be able relate to. To make the move from Ballymena to the States is obviously a big step, but she’s clearly relishing life in Texas and enjoying the student-athlete experience.
“It’s always great to listen to someone who’s out in the US and living and breathing the college lifestyle, and that really brings to life what we’re speaking to potential student athletes about. It’s not just about telling families about the great stuff that comes with being a college athlete but making sure they’re going into the journey with their eyes open. Laura will be happy to take any questions from the audience and we know those joining us on the webinar will be able to take a lot from it."
