FirstPoint USA assessment days are held monthly for both soccer and rugby. Here, we’ve put together an outline of the day; what to expect from a FirstPoint USA assessment, as well as what to bring along with you.
The day assessment begins with our Sports Consultants obtaining athletes information – via the completion of consent forms, collecting the assessment fee, and registration of the participant. Following on from this, a 40-minute presentation will be given by one of our Sports Consultants. This will provide some more information about FirstPoint USA itself, as well offer an insight into life as a student-athlete. After the presentation has been given, parents and players alike will be given the opportunity to ask our Sports Consultants about any questions or queries they may have.
The trials’ practical session will last around 90 minutes and will be played on a 3G surface. Participants will be separated into teams, and each player will be provided with their own numbered bib – this is how our coaches identify and grade each player.
For assessment purposes, the practical session is made up of different sections:
- Warm-up
- Passing exercises
- Possession
- Game-related exercises
- Goalkeeper drills
- Small-sided games
At the end of the practical session, there will be closing remarks from our Sports Consultants to bring the day to an end. Within the next 24-48, our team aim to be in touch with all participants to inform them of their results from the assessments. If successful at the trial stage, participants will be invited to attend an interview with one of our Sports Consultants, to discuss academics and overall eligibility for a US sports scholarship.
On the day, we suggest participants bring along:
- A parent or guardian
- Sports clothing
- Football/rugby boots (suitable for 3G)
- Water
For the days leading up to the assessment, we suggest participants ensure they are well-rested, are following a balanced diet, and take the time to fully prepare for the event.
