Over the weekend, we saw a number of successes for many of our FirstPoint USA clients and alumni. Here we've put together a list highlighting just some of many recent achievements and successes.
UWA Men’s Soccer
For the fourth year in a row, the University of West Alabama Tigers have captured the Gulf South Conference Men’s Soccer Championship title. The team were up against the University of Alabama, finishing 1-1 (5-4) in penalty kicks. Amongst the UWA Tigers are a number of FirstPoint USA alum; Liam Ireland, Kyle McLeod, Kiaran Maule, Jack Shiels, and Josh Forth. Huge congratulations to our former clients and the UWA team, who now advance to the NCAA South Regional after their GSC victory.
Liam Doyle
Back-to-back USL Western Conference Champions! Huge congratulations to FirstPoint USA alum, Liam Doyle, and the Swope Park Rangers on their win over Energy FC on Saturday. Liam is a former Ohio State University Men's Soccer student-athlete and was drafted into the MLS by DC United. Swope Park Rangers will face Louisville City FC on 13th November in the USL Cup Final.
Ayeisha McFerran
On Friday 3rd November, No. 10 ranked Cards upset No. 2 Duke 3-2 in shootout to advance to the ACC Championship. The game saw FirstPoint USA alum and University of Louisville Junior, Ayeisha McFerran collect a career-high 18 saves. The Cardinals Head Coach, Justine Sowry, said after the game, “I really have two words to say: Ayeisha McFerran. She was phenomenal today throughout the course of the game... Wow, just a phenomenal game by our team.”
Medaille Mavericks - Men's Soccer
The Medaille Mavericks men’s soccer team saw success over the weekend as they defeated the top seed and defending champ Penn St. Behrend in penalty kicks to win their first AMCC title since 2012. The match was a repeat of the 2016 title game which was won by Behrend; the two teams have faced each other ten times over the years, with the squads even with five wins apiece. Congrats to FirstPoint clients; Callum Flinn, Holy Gbode, Michael Mcgeary, Cameron Steer, and the team on their victory – it earns them the AMCC automatic bid to the NCAA DIII tournament.
Michael O’Malley
The Central Washington University men’s rugby team, including FirstPoint USA client Michael O’Malley, became the first ever Penn Mutual Collegiate Rugby Fall Classic Champions. The CWU Wildcats went 4-0 over two days to win the eight-team tournament, beating Arizona in the final, 15-4.
