Founded in 1856, The University of Maryland is the flagship institution of the University System of Maryland and is considered a Public Ivy institution. It is a member of the Association of American Universities and a founding member of the Atlantic Coast Conference athletic league.
Academics
With a fall 2010 enrollment of more than 37,000 students, over 100 undergraduate majors and 120 graduate programs, Maryland is the largest university in the state and the largest in the Washington Metropolitan Area. Athletics
The University of Maryland's athletics facilities provide outstanding practice and competition venues for the Terps' 25 varsity sports programs. So outstanding, in fact, that The Princeton Review ranked the facilities top in the country, as released by the publication in August of 2009. As of 2011, Maryland's athletic teams had been awarded 38 national championships by the NCAA, USILA, AIAW, and NCA!
Maryland offer fantastic 360 views of all their athletic facilities, on their website, including their $50.8 million - 54,000 capacity Byrd football stadium, $2.5 million soccer facilities and whopping 27 tennis courts!
